Dad was a man of many talents. He was in the Navy SeaBees Construction Batallion on Kwajalein Island for a year during the Korean conflict. That is where he began his Iron Working career. He built many bridges in Washington and Alaska. One of them was the Arch bridge in Mossyrock, he did that with 3 people and a boom crane. He loved Fly Fishing in Kodiak Alaska after a hard day at work, he also knew how to tie his own flys. He loved Bow Hunting with his Uncles and Cousins the Lawrences, they had many fun adventures together. He also loved hanging out with his nephew Sandy Barr and watching Big Time Wrestling. He dabbled in modeling with Eddie Bauer outdoor outfits. He was a natural. He was an artist, he loved to draw and paint. He painted sceneries of places he wanted to be, calm and serene in nature. He loved to play golf in real life and to play on Nintendo and beat Tiger Woods. He said it’s not hard you just have to know the mechanics and practice. He said I could’ve been a brain surgeon if they would’ve let me practice. Dad loved guns, he built 2 black powder pistols by hand and had a lot of different kinds of guns. He read a lot and was very knowledgeable about all kinds of guns. He taught us from a young age how to be safe around them, that they weren’t toys. He also took a class on Leather tooling and made and sold Chaps, wallets, and belts to make extra money and because he enjoyed it. But, his claim to fame was being a Cowboy. He loved being on horseback, roping and smoking his Camel unfiltered cigarettes. He started out Bronc Riding, Calf Roping, Bulldogging, Cow Milking, and Team Roping. He won many Belt Buckles and many Contests which kept him going back every weekend. He was so good at it people would ask him for tips, so he started roping schools to teach other people what he knew. Dad was a man’s man, he loved the outdoors and hated being inside. He worked hard all his life and never owed anyone anything. He used to say “I’m the last of the Mohicans”. He truly was! There will never be anyone like you! We Love you and Miss you so much. Happy Trails!!!
