That multi-generational family vacation you’ve been dreaming about can happen sooner rather than later as people continue to get vaccinated. Families had to make do with Zoom and grandkids settled for waving at grandma and grandpa from the other side of a window. If distance makes the heart grow fonder, it’s likely that families will want to mark the occasion of getting together with more than a family dinner. What better way to reconnect than on a trip with mom, dad, the kids and grandparents?

Whether you do a weekend or a week or two, the time will be priceless. Here are a few places to celebrate each other.

Whiteface Lodge, Lake Placid, New York

Whiteface Lodge is tucked into the woodlands above Lake Placid. The lakefront, all-suite, AAA Four Diamond resort is a showcase for handcrafted Adirondack-style and luxury. This mountain retreat is close to hiking and skiing. Take advantage of complimentary amenities like a 56-seat movie theater, a game room with a two-lane bowling alley, fishing pond, nightly s’mores, and ice-skating rink. And the resort’s complimentary children’s club, Kamp Kanu, is open seven days a week during the summer for children ages 3-10. While little ones are doing educational activities such as science experiments and arts and crafts, parents can dine at KANU, toast craft cocktails at Peak 47, or down whiskey and bourbon flights accompanied by a cigar at one of its two open-air lean-tos equipped with concierge service. Mom, dad, and grandpa and grandma can chill together at the award-winning Spa at Whiteface Lodge.

Brasada Ranch, Powell Butte, Oregon

This family-friendly resort in Central Oregon is on nearly 2,000 acres. Choose ranch house suites or one of the cabins to serve as your home away from home. There’s plenty to keep you busy. For the youngest there are pony rides; for everyone else, there are horseback rides through the high desert. Relax in the Athletic Club’s two outdoor pools and spa, and indoor kiddie pool. For the golf lovers there is Brasada Canyons. From the youngest to tweens, you can choose from curated activities such as astronomy, paint kits and puzzles. Teens, as well as mom, dad, grandma and grandpa can enjoy strength training, riding a Peloton and yoga classes at the Athletic Center.

Kimpton Seafire Resort and Spa, Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands

The aqua water is hypnotizing. Step foot on the Seven Mile Beach and you’ll know why it’s been named one of the best in the world. Kimpton Seafire Resort and Spa makes it a home along those shores. If relaxation is a priority for you and yours, especially after the last year and a half, the Spa at Seafire has you covered, be it with a thermal mud body treatment or the salt of the Caribbean Sea deep relaxation massage. When you’re recharged and revved to go, there’s every water sport imaginable. The island has more than 200 dive sites, underground caves, a botanical garden, forested trails, museums and more. When your kids want to do their own thing, drop them off at Camp Seafire with programs for ages 4 to 8 and 9 to 12, with daily themes.

The Broadmoor, Colorado Springs, Colorado

Set at the base of the Colorado Rockies is the AAA Five-Diamond Broadmoor. Make your way to the pool, be it the indoor one or the heated 11,000-square-foot infinity outdoor pool featuring two water slides and two 14-person whirlpools, plus a kiddie pool. You have a job to do. Decide among the 800 rooms on property. Should you go for the Estate House, a Gatsby-style, 12,000, five-bedroom private historic mansion; the brownstones, with their gourmet kitchens and private wine cellars; or the cottages that overlook the East golf course and Cheyenne Mountain. Then there are the wilderness properties—an entire dude ranch, including horses and a lake; luxury cabins with hot tubs, at 3,000 feet (Camp Cloud); or the cabins and lodge called the Fly Fishing Camp.

Here, everybody will find something they enjoy. Spend days golfing, playing tennis and pickleball, hiking, mountain biking, or soaring over Seven Falls ziplining. The experience includes moderate hiking, suspension bridge and a controlled 180-foot rappel. For those wanting a slower speed, take an easy walk with a naturalist or boating on Cheyenne Lake on the resort’s grounds. Paddle boat or canoe if you like. No worries if the weather doesn’t cooperate. Play is a restaurant with six bowling lanes plus a host of games including shuffleboard, a pool table, foosball, Xbox, PlayStation and Wii. The Broadmoor also has its own movie theater. When mom, dad and the grand folks want grown up time, the Broadmoor’s Bee Bunch entertains 3-7-year-olds, and Mason Bees, 8-12, with arts and crafts, games, movies, falconry, storytelling, outdoor recreation, educational activities, and even field trips to Cheyenne Zoo. Half-day, full-day, and evening camps are available daily.

Hyatt Regency Grand Reserve Puerto Rico, Rio Grande, Puerto Rico

You got something special with the backdrop of the nation’s only tropical rainforest. The Hyatt Regency Grand Reserve Puerto Rico, with its all-suite bungalow style accommodations, is set on a natural reserve. Grandparents can play on either one of the two 18-hole world-class Tom Kite-designed golf courses, indulge in massages in the full-service spa on property and lounge on the beach. The teens, tweens and kids can splash in three pools within the resort, including Puerto Rico’s largest lagoon-style pool, and play on the floating waterpark off the beach. Venture off property and explore the waterfalls in El Yunque National Rainforest only a few miles away. If you’re game, zipline, kayak in one of the three bioluminescent bays on the island or see American history at the 18th century fortress Castillo San Cristóbal in San Juan. At Nearby Carabalí Rainforest Park you can ride horses on riverside trails through the rainforest or take ATVs over the foothills. Finish off your days at any of the five on-site culinary eateries while marveling at the magic that is the sunset.
