In its 19th year, the Holy Rosary Catholic School’s annual Spring Interlude is being held as both a live and virtual event, with a dinner, music, silent auction and raffles at the Holmes Theatre Ballroom, and as part of a new to-go option that lets ticketholders eat and celebrate from home.

Called “Dinner, Cocktails and a Cause,” the live version of the Spring Interlude will run from from 5-11 p.m. on April 23. The virtual program will run from 7:30-8:30 p.m. (virtual event ticketholders will receive a link to watch the online program). Music will be provided by Katie Baker and Company, special guest Tim Eggebraaten will emcee, and there will be a Legacy Award ceremony honoring retired teacher Mary Burnside.

Tickets for the live event are limited and are $50 per adult. That cost covers a dinner of beef pot roast or chicken Monterey (guests’ choice) with side dishes and dessert, catered by La Barista in Detroit Lakes. There is also a kids’ meal option of creamy mac-n-cheese with fresh fruit, available for $12.

For those who prefer to partake from home, to-go tickets are also available for $50 (or $12 for kids). Meals can be picked up at the Holmes Ballroom from 4-6 p.m. the day of the event, or can be delivered for an extra $5 charge. The same meal options apply. To-go wine can be added for an additional $15, or beer for $12. To-go tickets include an auction bag, which contains an event program and a few other surprises to help people celebrate.

The silent auction is accessible to anyone who visits the event website, springinterlude.givesmart.com. The auction opened Monday, April 19, and will close at 8 p.m. the night of the live event, April 23. Winners do not need to be Spring Interlude ticketholders or be present at the time of the drawing; they can pick up their auction items at Holy Rosary School the week after the event.

“Check out our online auction — we have over 100 items and more are still coming (as of April 19), including student artwork,” said Terri Paskey, an event organizer. “We have some beautiful, really nice stuff this year. There’s something for everybody.”

Items up for grabs include a signed, framed “Purple Rain” gold record by Prince; Vikings tickets and gear; WE Fest tickets; fly fishing gear; a weekend stay at a local lodge; salon and movie night packages; gift baskets full of goods from local stores; and more.

Raffle tickets must be purchased either at Holy Rosary School the week prior to the event, or at the event itself; they are not available online. Winners will be drawn the evening of the event, at 8 p.m. Raffle prizes include cash up to $1,000, guns, gift cards, wine, and $2,000 toward tuition at Holy Rosary School.

All proceeds from the Spring Interlude will go toward the school’s immediate needs and teacher’s endowment.

Register or purchase tickets at springinterlude.givesmart.com, or text springinterlude to 76278. To make special meal pick-up or delivery arrangements, contact Terri Paskey at tpaskey@holyrosarycc.org or call 218-847-5306.

New this year, Grace Lutheran Church is holding a Spring Fling fundraiser, with a portion of the proceeds going to the church and the rest to Hospice of the Red River Valley.

A drive-thru event, the Spring Fling will serve up meatloaf dinners to-go to anyone who drives through the church parking lot from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, April 30. The church is at 213 Roosevelt Avenue in Detroit Lakes.

For $10, a person will get a full meal of meatloaf, scalloped potatoes, green bean casserole, a dinner roll, a candy bar, and a “frog’s eye” sweet salad.

Organizers timed out the event to take place at the same time as Detroit Lakes’ kick-off sesquicentennial celebration, the Sailboat Regatta, which is happening from 4-7 p.m. that same day, April 30, at Kent Freeman Arena.

“It should work out so that people can stop by here and get a meal before they head over to see the sailboats,” said Glennis Olson, the church’s office manager. “All they have to do is just drive through.”

Olson said the church hopes to make this Spring Fling an annual event, if all goes well. They wanted to share the profits with Hospice of the Red River Valley, she explained, because, “We have members that have been under hospice care there, and are currently under hospice care, so we felt like we needed to donate some of the profits to them. They do a good job.”

All the food will be freshly made, she added, and the menu was intentionally planned to stand apart from the kind of foods the church usually offers. The frog’s eye salad, in particular — a concoction of small ring macaroni with cool whip, mandarin oranges, pineapple and other sweet ingredients — “is kind of something different,” Olson said. “This is a new meal for us, so we are very excited about it.”
