In this week’s great video from Tim Flagler of Tightline Productions, he shows you how to tie a cool Hendrickson-nymph pattern that imitates the naturals in his western-New Jersey streams. (SBR stands for South Branch of the Raritan.) Although the finished fly looks complicated, Tim’s tying steps are remarkably simple, using a single material to perform double duty. SBR Hendrickson Nymph
Hook: 2X-long nymph hook (here a Dai-Riki #730), sizes 12-16.
Bead: Gold tungsten bead, 7/64-inch.
Weight: Lead-free round wire, .020.
Adhesive #1: Fly Tyer’s Z-Ment.
Thread: Wood duck, 8/0 or 70-denier.
Rib: Gold Ultra Wire, small.
Tail: Wood duck tip fibers.
Back / wingcase: Natural pheasant tail fibers.
Body: Squirrel-belly-colored rabbit-fur dubbing.
Thorax: Squirrel-belly-colored rabbit fur dubbing.
