Paul Brown Osborne of Moravian Falls died Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2021.
Brown was born on Sept. 18, 1938, to Kelley Paul Osborne and Marjorie Dula Osborne. He served in the U.S. Army after graduating from East Tennessee State College.
Brown was an avid fly fisherman who helped found the North Carolina chapter of Trout Unlimited. At the age of 82, he would say he had never missed the opening day of trout season, ever since he was in the first grade. He enjoyed a lifetime of fishing with his dear brother, Judge Sam Osborne.
He was a true conservationist. He participated in many projects through Trout Unlimited. He helped establish the current cubic flow per second rate on the South Holston River dam in East Tennessee. He taught fly fishing courses and gladly helped others learn his fly fishing craftsmanship, and the art of fly tying. He once served on the board of the Nature Conservancy as well. He was a previous member of Ducks Unlimited.
He was known for his surveying, map making and land development abilities. He was a great source of advice on these matters to friends, attorneys and anyone who ever asked his advice. He helped to establish the Cartway Path bill in the N.C. Legislature. He was a descendant of the original Wilkes County Register of Deeds, John Brown.
He once served Wilkes County as a Board of Elections member. He was a descendant of several Wilkes County Sheriffs, to include P.E. Brown. Having worked for the P.E. Brown Lumber Company, he began his career in logging and timber sales and continued in timber dealings throughout his life.
He is survived by his wife, Jennifer Beshears Osborne; his son, Mikeal B. Osborne; and his daughter, Jessica Osborne Morrow, and his beloved grandchildren. His grandchildren are Aleah Morrow, Chelsea Osborne and Josh Morrow (otherwise known by his Grandpa as “ole Josh buddy.”)
He is also survived by his brother, Sam Osborne, and two sisters, Marilyn Payne and Susan Osborne.
He was a fun and genial soul who spent his lifetime in dedicated service to his family. He will be missed and cherished in memory.
