In Sandy Springs, you’ll find an abundance of businesses offering new opportunities and experiences through classes, workshops, and private lessons. Here are eight that will get you excited about stepping outside of your day-to-day.
1. Rockler – Woodworking
This trusted hardware store is Sandy Springs’ go-to shop for woodworking supplies. In addition to selling tools, Rockler also offers a number of woodworking workshops and demonstrations. Classes and workshops are all in-store and hands-on and cover a range of topics and techniques that appeal to both beginner and experienced woodworkers. You can also try your hand at a Make & Take events, where you’ll walk out with a finished project. All events are led by an expert staff member.
2. The Sipping Plant – Terrarium Building

More and more people are discovering the magic of succulent gardens. Not only are they beautiful and unique, but they’re also incredibly easy to care for. At The Sipping Plant, you can design and build your own special succulent terrarium to take home and enjoy. An instructor will guide you as you choose your container, filler material, plants, and decorations to create your one-of-a-kind terrarium. Guests over 21 can bring beer or wine to enjoy during the 2-hour workshop.
3. Painting with a Twist or Sips n Strokes- Painting
If you want to try your hand at being an artist, grab a paintbrush and join the fun at one of Sandy Springs BYOB painting studios. Painting with a Twist and Sips n Strokes offer many events where the class will paint the same picture with steps and guidance provided by an instructor—you don’t have to have any experience to participate. Each session offers a different theme, so you can choose which night to attend based on what you’d like to paint—there are a lot of choices so you can return again and again and never have the same experience twice. If you are over 21, you’re invited to bring beer or wine to sip while creating your masterpiece.
4. PasoFino Latin Dance Studio
Feeling the need to just let go and shake it all out? PasoFino’s mission is to make people happy through Latin dance! They have drop-in classes for beginners on Mondays from 8-9 for only $20 per person for each classes. Classes are currently capped at 20 people with temperatures checked and masks required. It doesn’t matter what your skill or fitness level, everyone is welcome at PasoFino to learn the basic footwork, body movements and how to find your timing with the music. They also offer group lessons and private instruction for more experience dancers.
5. Morgan Falls Overlook Park – Paddling
SUP’ing is a fun way to add a little relaxation into your day. Visit Sandy Springs
Getting out on the water can be a wonderful way to relax. The Paddle Shack at Morgan Falls Overlook Park along the Chattahoochee River is here to help you do it comfortably and safely. You can rent stand-up paddleboards (SUPs) and kayaks or take a guided tour led by an experienced guide. You can also try out SUP yoga—yup, yoga on a paddleboard on the water! Kayaking and paddleboarding are great fun with kids and the Paddle Shack will even let you bring your dog.
6. River Through Atlanta- Fly Fishing
Whether you’ve never gone fishing before or you are feeling like it’s time to improve upon your skills a little, River Through Atlanta’s fly fishing classes are a great way to learn some casting and fly presentation techniques. You can learn the fundamentals of casting with their Introduction to Fly Fishing class on the Chattahoochee River, which is a great spot for fishing year-round.
7. Beer and Wine Craft- Beer and Wine Making
Have you always wanted to learn how to make your own beer or wine? The staff at Beer and Wine Craft can teach you the basic steps of making beer, wine or country wine with their monthly classes. You will also learn some of the history of the craft and get to taste some samples. If you really enjoy this new skill, you are in luck because Beer and Wine Craft also sells equipment for you to make your own beverages at home.
8. Young Chefs Academy- Cooking for Kids
Those looking for an engaging and useful hobby for their children in 2021 should check out Young Chefs Academy’s workshops and camps. Young Chefs Academy offers immersive culinary adventures for where kids can learn practical kitchen skills, try out fun recipes, and build their self-esteem.
