WAYNESBORO – The City of Waynesboro awarded a total more than $600,000 to 49 businesses thanks to the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act.

The funds, which totals $600,792, were provided to eligible businesses through the Renaissance and Sustainability Fund. The city, through the Waynesboro Economic Development Authority, dispersed funds under that programs.

The Renaissance Fund (part two) grant program provided grants up to $25,000 for businesses that suffered a loss due to business closures related to COVID-19.

These funds are in addition to the first Renaissance Fund and the nonprofit Sustainability Fund programs for a total of $600,000 available in the three grant programs, a release said.

The county and Staunton recently released the list of businesses that received funding through the CARES Act.

Augusta County awarded $210,000 in grant funds to 23 businesses thanks to CARES Act. The City of Staunton recently awarded $500,000 in its Staunton Cares Business Grant Program. Almost 50 Staunton businesses benefited from the grant program.
