Each video domonstrates a single tying skill, from the most basic to the advanced. Ultimately, the series will serve as a sort of encyclopedia of tying skills that will be a valuable resource for anyone who sits down at a vise to create a fly.
When you’re tying a pattern that features long hackles, legs, or other materials, keeping them out of the way while you tie can be a frustrating process. As Tim notes here, some vises feature special material-holding springs or magnets. But even if your vise doesn’t have these features, there are plenty of simple ways to hold materials out of the way–from hair clips to bread ties.
