William W. Roberts, 93, of Forty Fort, passed peacefully into the loving arms of his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2020, at Highland Manor Nursing Home, with his wife by his side.
Raised in Plymouth, he was the son of the late, William T. and Bertha Gregart Roberts.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Robert J. Roberts, staff sergeant, U.S. Air Force — MIA during World War II; and sister, Louise McCarthy.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 61 years, Lois Richards Roberts; daughter, Janet Venetz and husband, Michael, West Wyoming; son, David and his companion, Carol Zurawski, Wilkes-Barre; sister, Arline Dobson; and brother, John “Jack” Roberts, both of Florida; as well as nieces, nephews and cousins.
Bill was educated in the Plymouth schools and in his early years was employed by Vulcan Iron Works and later as a mechanic at Consolidated Cigar, West Pittston, and retired from American Cigar, Mountain Top.
He was a member of the Forty Fort Presbyterian Church and a Past Master of Plymouth Lodge 332 F&AM.
Bill was a kind, easy going man who thought of others before himself. He has a green thumb, could skillfully beat you at rummy, always reminded you to “keep smiling,” say your prayers and “have a good life,” His blue eyes and contagious smile, endless stories about his early years and spontaneous singing were his way of brightening up the day of others, even in his final days. Although he had been through many physical challenges, he always reminded us, “I’ve had a good life.” He didn’t want to leave us but he was looking forward to being reunited with family and friends. We are comforted, knowing he is in his heavenly home.
Bill loved his family unconditionally and pictured each of his loved ones when he closed his eyes at night. He loved hunting at Red Rock and fly fishing, especially with his friend, Robert. Bill and Lois shared many trips and made good memories throughout their life together. Oct. 11 would have been their 62nd wedding anniversary.
Bill’s family would like to thank the doctors and staff of Highland Manor for their care and kindness.
Family and friends are asked to call from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Hugh B. Hughes & Son Inc. Funeral Home, 1044 Wyoming Ave., Forty Fort. As per CDC guidelines, masks and social distancing are required.
Funeral service will be held privately at the convenience of the family, with the Rev. William Lukesh and the Rev. Mark DeSilva, pastor, officiating.
Interment will be held following the service at Albert Cemetery, Mountain Top.
A special thanks to Sue, who faithfully visited Bill and Lois, keeping their spirits up after having to leave their home and to Theresa, whose kindness and caring allowed them to stay in their home as long as possible.
