Nymphing for winter trout can be a lot of fun, but how do you know what flies to use if nothing is hatching? Pennsylvania guide Juan Veruete offers his choice for the best tandem nymph combo: what he calls “Bacon and Eggs.” This is a variation of the worm-and-Glo Bug rig often called “Ham and Eggs.” Verute preferes to pair his egg fly with a heavy Beadhead Caddis Nymph, which gives the combo and attractor and a more natural imitation.

Veruete shows you how to rig these flies for tightline nymphing, but I’m sure you could fish them under an indicator, as well, if that’s your preferred method.
