Craig Fellin established Big Hole Lodge in 1984, and he’s learned a lot about how to catch trout in rivers in the four decades since. This is the second video in a seven-part series on successful fly fishing, in which he takes on the subject of fly selection. (See part 1, How to Read Water, here.) Here, Craig discusses how you choose the right fly to give yourself the best chances to catch trout. The main goal, of course, is to match the feeding patterns of the trout you are observing, be it with a dry fly or a nymph.

Before you tie on a fly, take a moment to see if there’s something going on that you need to imitate.
