GOOD NEWS ! The bass fishin’ has been very good the past few weeks on the #1 bass fishery in the United States. Plus, everyday the water quality has been getting better and better. The best water is to be found near the state and county parks and pretty much the entire south end of the lake is fishable..  The anglers that have been doing well have been fishing the deeper water near rock piles and structure.  Drop shottin’ or draggin’ worms and baby brushhogs slowly.  Also chatterbaits and lipless crankbaits have been getting anglers hooked up. The trick has been to keep moving. Cover a lot of water. The bite is soft.  As my buddy Rich always says, “hook sets are free.”  So set the hook, it could be that 10 pounder.

The word is that the CATFISHING HAS BEEN REALLY GOOD!  Drifting a live crawdad with a bobber has been the ticket.

LAKE SONOMA ~ steelhead & bass fishing –

Got a itch for some STEELHEAD fishin’ ? Well, the “steelies” in Lake Sonoma have been biting lately!  Most fish have been hooked in the deep water, 45-60 ft., along the dam.

Drop shottin’ with the hook way up the line and slow draggin’ plastics have been working for most bass anglers.  The bass are holding in submersed trees at the mouth of fingers and some of the small coves off the main body of water. I talked to one fishermen who said he has caught some 5-6 pounders on a trout colored swimbait after the sun goes down. But, Lake Sonoma is nothing to get excited about. Wait until the evenings cool down. Then, the bass fishing will look up.

BLUE LAKES ~ trout & bass fishing –

The trout are in deeper water, making them difficult to catch.  Although a couple anglers have hooked into them trolling with down riggers set to about 25 feet.  Nobody is catching all that many.  Right now your best bet for Blue Lakes is bass fishin.  Try fishin’ a Texas rigged Senko, Sweet Beaver or Brushhog.  Cast it along submersed brush and trees.  Also drop shottin’  the open water or near docks will get you hooked up.  Like everywhere right now the best times to fish are the early morning and the last hour of daylight.  Go get ‘em!

SACRAMENTO RIVER ~ trout fly fishing –

Fishing on the Lower Sacramento was good this week. The bite seems to be good throughout the day with the upper sections of the river kicking out some really big rainbows, and the lower sections producing good numbers of 14- to 18-inch fish. Slower times seem to be between 2-5 p.m. Good flies have been Rubber Leggs, small mayfly nymphs S&M’s, Micro mays, caddis patterns (birds nests, poopahs) and egg patterns.

TRINTY RIVER ~ salmon fishing –

The fall run on the Trinity River is starting to build with new king salmon moving into the upper Trinity River near Lewiston. A mix of adult salmon and jack salmon were coming in this week with most fish averaging 12 to 15 pounds. Back-bouncing both roe and sardine-wrapped lures were working from Lewiston down to Junction City. Some guides reported 2 to 4 kings hooked a day this past week.

ROUGE RIVER ~ salmon fishing –

Salmon fishing in the mouth of the Rogue River at Gold Beach has been fair at best this past week.  Not everyone is hooking kings but some days private boaters and guides are bringing two to three salmon to the net. The run traditionally builds through August and into September. The upper Rogue River near Shady Cove was still fishing good with a couple of kings a day coming in. The steelhead fishing has remained good with two to three steelhead per outing side-drifting roe.

SACRAMENTO RIVER ~ salmon fishing –

Salmon fishing on the Sacramento River was desent this week with many new fish moving into the upper stretch. The best fishing was from Bend Bridge downriver through Hamilton City. Private boaters and guides were hooking many kings at 16 to 24 pounds;  Back-bouncing roe or sardine-wrapped lures like the Brad’s Killerfish were working along with drifting roe.

We are all in this together.  I understand that we are all sick and tired of being sick and tired!  Remember, a small amout of kindness goes along way, & SMILE !
