Balenciaga is hoping to reel customers in with its new fishermen’s style footwear.

The Spanish fashion house has introduced fishermen’s-style waders to its winter footwear collection, which cost just short of £2,500.

The wacky footwear is described as black over-the-knee boots, but they are so long that they come up to the wearer’s waist.

But they can’t be used for fishing because they are made of calf-skin – and can only be wiped clean with a cloth.

Balenciaga has come under fire for the 110mm over-the-knee boot, with one shopper exclaiming: ‘It’s not exactly what you’d wear to do the weekly shop at Tesco.

‘But I’m sure some people will fall hook, like and sinker for them.’

The waders description reads: ‘Waders 110mm Over-The-Knee Boot in matte black calfskin is in several looks of the Balenciaga’s Winter 22 Collection, 360° Show.’

Balenciaga has been popular with A-listers like Kim Kardashian and Premier League footballers such as Jack Grealish.

But it faced a backlash last November after kids were used in ad campaigns holding bondage teddy bears.

Uproar over the campaign came days after the brand was called out over a separate ad campaign that was entirely its own doing, which showed young children posing with bondage-clad teddy bears.

Perhaps even more bizarrely, a Twitter user discovered that one of the photos in the shoot contained an excerpt from the 2008 US Supreme Court opinion in United States v. Williams, which upheld part of a federal child pornography law, which Twitter’s own fact-checkers confirmed.

The brand has since apologised and said that it is suing ad production company North Six Inc., as well as set designer Nicholas Des Jardins and his own brand for including images of legal documents on the US Supreme Court’s decision on child pornography laws in the ad campaign.
