WOODBURY – Veronica Marie Wunder Paulson, 58, passed away on Dec. 19, 2022, at VITAS Healthcare at Saint Mary’s Hospital.
Veronica was born May 19, 1964 in Columbus, Ohio, daughter of Jenny Wunder and Willis F. Wunder, M.D. Veronica grew up in Watertown, where she attended school until college. She graduated from the Culinary Institute of America at Hyde Park, N.Y., and later attended Naugatuck Valley Community College in Waterbury.
She earned her B.A. from Northeastern University, Boston, Mass.; her master’s in education from the University of Bridgeport, Bridgeport, and her English Tutor Certificate from St. Joseph University, West Hartford.
Veronica was an English tutor at Duggan School in Waterbury, and her students all held a special place in her heart.
Veronica enjoyed her associations with Livestrong; YMCA Tri-Club; Brave at Heart; Betty J. Borry Breast Cancer and the Quassapaug Sailing Center. She also enjoyed native plant gardening, sailing, kayaking, hiking, biking, swimming, being near the ocean, cooking, bird watching, camping and simply being outdoors.
Veronica was a passionate animal lover, and also had a passion for playing her ukulele and fly-fishing.
In addition to her mother and close companion, Jenny Wunder and her father, Dr. Willis F. Wunder, Veronica is survived by her brothers and sisters-in-law, David and Sue Wunder and Steven and Teri Wunder; her nephew, Andrew Wunder; her former husband, Greg Paulson; along with numerous uncles, aunts, cousins and special friends, Roxanne and Nayra; many other close friends from Connecticut, Hawaii, Seattle, Iceland, Rio de Janeiro and Manus, Brazil.
Veronica was predeceased by her fiance, Phillip Merrick.
Veronica’s family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Yueming Chang and her entire oncology team, Harold Leever Regional Cancer Center, Trinity Health of NE at Home and the entire care team at Saint Mary’s Hospital ER, ICU and VITAS.
To honor Veronica, a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2023 at 10 a.m. at the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, 74 W. Main St., Waterbury. Everyone attending is asked to please meet directly at the basilica. Burial will be at the convenience of the family and there are no calling hours.
