A ONE-OFF auction took place to raise money for a charity supporting men’s health formed by Hampshire County Council.

Fishing gear company, Orvis UK, invited its customers, to its Stockbridge store, for a charity auction and to get together again after the annual fly-fishing festival where more than 130 anglers took part.

The Orvis Saltwater Fly Fishing Festival Re-Load Social raised £800, at the branch in Stockbridge High Street, for the Men’s Activity Network (MAN) on Saturday, October 22.

An original David Miller artwork, ‘Grey Mullet’, was up for auction in aid of the charity established by Hampshire County Council to support men’s physical and mental health.

The organisation, inspired by the men’s shed movement, brings together male groups such as clubs, workshops, and community allotments across Hampshire to better connected and improve wellness.

The painting sold for £800, with all proceeds going towards the MAN project as supported by Shane Davies who runs free weekly fly-tying zoom sessions called the Imbizo Fly Tying Group.

Visitors also looked back on this year’s Orvis Saltwater Fly Fishing Festival, an annual festival that welcomes all ages and abilities of anglers to Hayling Island in pursuit of bass and mullet.

Hampshire Chronicle:

From September 2 to September 4 keen fishers from all over the UK took part in the festival, including bass and mullet workshops and two days of competition.

The aim of the event is to bring together like-minded anglers to forge new friendships, develop new skills and learn more about Saltwater Fly Fishing, an increasingly popular activity across UK coastlines.

Orvis UK retail sales manager, James Doyle, said: “One of the most wonderful aspects of the Saltwater Fly Fishing Festival is the opportunity to share and celebrate our adventures and wonder in nature. Festival social events and the time spent together sharing personal experiences provide delightful memories and enduring friendships. People were also able to engage in the festival through viewing and sharing social media content and television.

Hampshire Chronicle:

“The social event at Orvis Stockbridge was aimed at anyone who wanted to share and celebrate their fly-fishing adventures and join a community who do.”
