Here’s the latest installment of our series of videos called “One-Minute Fly-Tying Tips and Techniques” from Tim Flagler of Tightline Productions. Each video teaches a single tying skill, from the most basic to the advanced. Ultimately, the series will serve as a sort of encyclopedia of tying skills that will be a valuable resource for anyone who sits down at a vise to create a fly.

Watch enough of Tim Flagler’s videos, and you’ll be astonished by how accurately he places materials on the hook. In this video, he explains one way he does it. By holding the material you’re tying in at an angle, you force the thread wraps together and keep strands of the material from falling off the top of the hook. Although he demonstrates with just two materials here, I’m sure you can see how this technique can be used in many different tying situations.
