Military veterans are invited to a free day of fishing, food and fun at Kingston Veterans and Sportsmans Club in Latrobe on Oct. 1.
The event is sponsored by the Forbes Trail and Ken Sink chapters of Trout Unlimited along with Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing. The event is open to all veterans ranging from experienced anglers to those fishing for the first time. Trout Unlimited will provide one-on-one instructions and a full-time mentor along with gear for those who need it.
Veterans can bring a guest. Lunch, bottled drinks and snacks will be provided at the facility, which features a large lake with easy wheelchair access and ADA accessibility along with two pavilions and portable restrooms.
Attendees will not need a valid Pennsylvania fishing license, as a permit from the Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission covers all participants for the day. In the event of foul weather, the event will be rescheduled for Oct. 9.
During the 2022 Connellsville varsity football season, the general admission side entrance gate, bleachers, restrooms and concession stand at Connellsville Stadium will be closed due to a construction project. Only the reserved side gates, bleachers, concession stand and restrooms will be open.
All tickets for this season will be reserved seats and the cost is $6 per seat. Tickets will be sold each Thursday from 5-7 p.m. in advance of the Friday night home games. Only 2,700 tickets will be sold for each game. Season tickets are $30 and will be on sale tonight from 5-7 p.m. at the stadium ticket booth.
Connellsville students will be given the opportunity to purchase student tickets in Section H on the reserved side for $3. Tickets will be on sale the day of home games at CAHS, CAMS and the CTC. Only 200 student tickets will be available. No student tickets will be sold at the gate.
Due to the construction project, parking areas near Davidson Ave., S. Pittsburgh St. and other South Side neighborhood areas may not be available.
Spectators are encouraged to arrive early, carpool if possible and to anticipate less parking than normal.
The PIAA is looking for sports officials. Anyone 18 years of age and older is eligible. To get started, register at www.piaa.org or call 1-800-382-1392. You will receive rule books for the sports you choose. You will then take an online exam at your convenience. Once the exam is passed, you will need to join a chapter from a list that will be provided to you. A chapter secretary will then contact you.
