The Carson City Host Lions Club hosted the Annual Kids’ Fishing Day at Baily Pond in Fuji Park on Saturday, May 7th from 9:00 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event provided a good opportunity to introduce kids under the age of 12 to fishing and conservation. The Boy Scouts of Troop 33 and volunteers from the Douglas County Kids Fishing Derby helped prep the fishing poles and gear for the kids. About 75 children and their families attended.

Children were provided fishing gear if they did not have their own. Lions cleaned the fish for the kids and provided each child a snack. The Nevada Department of Wildlife had staff on hand to talk about conservation and wildlife. There were raffle prizes, including brand new bikes won by Kylee Smokey, age 8, and Grayson Rully, age 4. Chance Kaamasee, age 17, also won a bike in the adult category.

The Lions want to especially thank event sponsors and donors including the Carson Valley Chukar Club, Carson City Fly Fishing Club, Nevada Big Horns Unlimited, Chris MacKenzie, Dutch Brothers, Lumos and Associates, Scheels, and Western Nevada Supply.

The Carson City Host Lions Club is part of Lions Clubs International, the world’s largest service organization. For more information about the club and its vision preservation and youth programs, go to https://www.carsoncitylions.com
