MORGAN, Utah – A Utah woman is putting in extra hours in the water as she prepares for her next fly-casting competition.

For the last 15 years, Audrey Wilson has been in the water fly-casting.

“Definitely inspired by the art of the cast,” said Wilson.

Turns out, the native is good. Make that really good, as she’s about to reel in her biggest catch yet representing Utah on Team USA in Norway.

“I believe anything you put your mind to, you can achieve, so that’s what it means for me to compete in something big like this and how I can impact the world,” said Wilson.

The fly-casting world championships will be held in August.

In what’s often thought of as a male-dominated sport, already, she’s casting big dreams for others as the only female fly casting instructor in the state.

“It’s just about inspiring others to get into the sport – especially for women,” said Wilson.

Wilson said she’s learned lessons in the water that she now gets to pass on to others as their instructor and mentor.

“You have got to be patient. The weather could be different. The bugs that the fish are eating could be different,” said Wilson.

It’s love at first cast for Wilson.

“You’re going to get that fish. Just keep swimming, or just keep fishing,” said Wilson.
