Special dinner

Zion Lutheran Church in Brodheadsville will be serving shepherd’s pie on Wednesday for its drive-thru St. Patrick’s Day-themed dinner.

Dinner will be served between 5 and 6 p.m.

Altar & Rosary

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church Altar & Rosary will hold its first meeting of the year at 6 p.m. today in the church Cafe.

Lenten services

Effort UMC will have a Lenten service at 7 p.m. today. Each week a study will be taught on video by District Superintendent Steven C. Morton, joined by Elders from the North District of the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference of the United Methodist Church.

St. Peter’s UMC, Saylorsburg, will have a Bible study at 7 p.m. with the focus continuing to be, with this evening’s title being I AM the light of the world, using John 8:12 as the text as led by the Rev. Zabdiel Khan, St. Peter’s Pastor.

Eldred Supervisors

The Eldred Board of Supervisors will meet at 7 p.m. today at the municipal building in Kunkletown.

League meeting

The West End Little League will hold its open meeting at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Chestnuthill Township Park in Brodheadsville.

Park is bingo site

West End Park and Open Space Commission has scheduled an evening of bingo for Friday starting with doors opening at 6 p.m. and games beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Chestnuthill Park, 221 Route 715, Brodheadsville.

PV spring musical

The Pleasant Valley High School will present its musical Friday and Saturday, beginning at 7 p.m., and Sunday at 2 p.m. Tickets will be available at the door.

Food distribution

The West End Food Pantry in Kunkletown, at 516 Kunkletown Road, is scheduled to be open from 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday.

It helps those in need in Polk, Ross, Chestnuthill and Eldred townships as well as local surrounding communities.

Fly fishing class

Monroe County Conservation District’s Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center has announced Intro to Fly Fishing with Brodhead Chapter of Trout Unlimited set for 9 a.m. Saturday.

The class portion will be at Brodhead Creek Heritage Center. Instruction includes: basic equipment, knot tying, fly casting, types of flies and what they imitate, reading water.

Preregistration is required and there is a 24 student maximum. There is a minimal cost per person.

Spaghetti benefit

Christ Hamilton Lutheran Church on Bossardsville Road, will be hosting a spaghetti dinner from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday to benefit Valor Clinic.

Lenten offerings

Our Lady Queen of Peace offers several faith-related opportunities during Lent.

One such opportunity is Confessions. They will be offered from 6 to 7 p.m. with two priests to hear one’s confession. Saturday Confessions are from 3 to 3:45 p.m. and will continue throughout Lent except Holy Saturday.

On Wednesdays during Lent, Forgiven: The Transforming Power of Confession, explores the grace and healing offered in Confession and shows how this sacrament of mercy reveals the depth and bounty of God’s love.

It begins at 6 p.m. with dinner, and is followed by a teaching video and/or witness followed by a small group discussion.

Another is on Fridays during Lent the Stations of the Cross, also known as the Way of the Cross, is prayed each Friday during Lent.

In this prayer, 14 traditional events in the passion of Jesus are recalled and meditated upon. Each station is visited as the prayers are made; icons or stations are traditionally hung along the perimeter of the inside walls of churches.

Men’s meeting

The Effort UMC Men’s group will meet at 9 a.m. Saturday for food, fellowship and good discussion.

Vigil Mass returns

Beginning Saturday, Our Lady Queen of Peace Church’s Vigil Mass will return to 5 p.m. Confessions will be heard from 4 to 4:45 p.m.

Postponed dinner

Due to the predicted inclement weather for last Saturday, the St. Patrick’s Day dinner at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Brodheadsville, was moved to 6 p.m. this Saturday.
