Larry Edward Prince passed away at 82, in Sun City, Arizona on Wed. the 22nd of Dec. He was born in San Francisco on Feb. 21, 1939, into a military family.
The younger of two boys, Larry spent his early childhood traveling between Army Air Corps bases across the country. After his father’s active Pacific theater service in WWII, the family settled in Paradise, California, seeking much needed solitude. Larry grew up doing what he loved, hiking and fly fishing the rivers and streams of the Sierras, which would be his lifelong passion.
He followed in his mother and brother’s footsteps by graduating with honors from Chico State College, where he received a BS in Electrical Engineering. Larry married his high school sweetheart, Sandra Lea Shield, and after graduation, was recruited and relocated to NWC China Lake in the electronic warfare arena. There, he successfully supported many programs as an EE, Project Eng. and Program Manager.
While a young professional he decided to pursue additional education through a government fellowship program and went to the University of Washington for an MSEE. By this time Sandy and Larry had four children, Stephen, Michael, Phillip and Melinda, and moved back to China Lake where they had an excellent foundation for an active upbringing. Larry was a renaissance man; there was nothing he couldn’t do if he put his mind to it. A very active sportsman, he shared his interests with his wife and children by exploring the Sierras, Wyoming’s Wind River, and Alaska in pursuit of hiking, fishing, and photography.
Like his father and brother, Larry was raised with a keen sense of patriotism and duty to serve the nation’s military. Larry was able to work and support multiple government agencies as a Program Manager in the Bay Area, Washington DC, Fallon, NV, and China Lake.
In support of his wife’s love of travel, they visited countless countries. He is preceded in death by his parents, Maj William Prince and Clarice, brother Bill, his loving wife Sandy and two sons, David and Michael. Larry departed in peace, leaving his three children, Stephen, Phillip, Melinda and nine grandchildren.
Larry’s wishes were to be put to rest amongst his wife, two sons and mother and father at the Paradise Cemetery.
