d. Dec. 2, 2021
It is with immeasurable sadness that the family of Jeffrey Michael Schouten announce his sudden passing on Dec. 2, 2021, at the age of 50.
Jeff was born in Escondido to Joy Mack and Peter Schouten. In 1974, the family moved to a dairy in Dixon. The cherished stories told of adventures growing up with his siblings, cousins and friends on the farm are endless.
Jeff graduated from Dixon High in 1989, where he excelled in sports, including football, baseball and basketball. He went on to attend UC Davis, earning his bachelor’s degree in organizational studies in 1994. After graduation, Jeff spent time in Texas with his father working on his dairy. He later returned to California and began work with his stepfather, Tom Galindo, in the family farming business.
For the next 11 years, he developed his farming skills and a passion for agriculture in the Sacramento Valley. During this time, his son Aidan was born in 2007, followed by daughter Avery in 2009, and daughter Alexis in 2012. Jeff saw fatherhood as his greatest life achievement, and the pride he felt for his children was endless.
The knowledge and experience gained at Galindo Farms paved the way for Jeff to move on professionally to Olam, a processing tomato cannery, and then on to HM.Clause as farm manager of the Davis research station. In 2019, he began a new phase of his career with the company becoming the Global Processing Tomato Product Manager. Jeff was incredibly passionate about the processing tomato industry and was pivotal in making tremendous inroads in market share for the company. His limitless dedication to his job and his team was evident and appreciated by all his associates.
Working for HM.Clause brought Jeff and the love of his life, Adrienne, together in 2014. The following year, they blended their separate family units together into one crazy, loud and loving family of eight. In 2017, Jeff and Adrienne were married and welcomed Callum into their lives as the final piece to complete their family. Jeff was the ultimate family man, and nothing made him happier than spending time with Adrienne and the kids, enjoying the simple things in life: swimming, gardening, cooking up a feast or settling in for family movie night. Jeff had a passion for life and an incredible ability to see the positive out of just about any situation. He had an infectious laugh and was the kind of person that people naturally gravitated towards.
Jeff loved fishing of any kind, but especially fly-fishing. Vegetable gardening was his daily passion, spurred on by his never-ending goal of producing the hottest pepper possible. His efforts resulted in constant battles around the dinner table of who could eat the most of his fiery produce. The beach was Jeff’s happy place; he and Adrienne spent as much time as possible there watching the surf with toes in the sand. He was a lifelong diehard Raiders fan; Sunday football game gatherings were a festive and joyful respite for the whole family. Jeff followed his beloved team closely and was an ardent and dedicated member of his long-term fantasy football league.
Jeff is survived by his wife, Adrienne; their son, Callum (4); and his children from a previous marriage, Aidan (14), Avery (12), and Alexis (9), and stepchildren, Kyle Difuntorum (20), Caden Difuntorum (18) and Alayna Difuntorum (10). He is also survived by his parents, Joy and Tom Galindo, and Peter and Nova Schouten; brothers Peter (Angela) and Jason (Stephanie); sister Erin Terpstra (Pieter); and stepsiblings Gina White (Barry) and Jeffrey Galindo. Additionally, he is survived by a large extended family of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. We will all miss him, and his mammoth bear hugs, dearly.
Services will begin at 12:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 7, 2022, at the Davis Cemetery, followed by a celebration of life at El Macero Country Club at 2 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donations in Jeff’s name to the American Heart Association, www.heart.org.
