Donald David Hodson Sr.
Donald David Hodson, Sr, of Beckley WV, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 13, 2021.

He was born on January 9, 1930 in Helen, West Virginia to Lillian L and Ermil D. Hodson.

Don graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1949 and was part of the graduating class of the West Virginia University Law School in 1957.

He was also a member of the West Virginia State Bar, The American Trial Lawyers Association and the West Virginia Trial Lawyers Association. He practiced in both federal and state jurisdictions for 25 years.

Don made his mark in ‘history’ when he served as chairman for the John F. Kennedy Presidential Campaign for Southern West Virginia. He enjoyed meeting and working with the Kennedy staff, all of whom became active members of the President’s team. He often talked about a fond memory of having dinner with Bobby, Ethel and children in their Virginia home.

Don’s love of sports began with his experience as a member of the 1948 and 1949 West Virginia State Football Championship team. He was an avid WVU fan! He enjoyed playing tennis and loved the outdoors. His fondest memories included camping and snow skiing with his sons, Don Jr. and Doug. He often spoke of adventures with his boys and special friends. He enjoyed hiking in the Grand Canyon, fly-fishing, hunting, canoeing on the Selway and Colorado Rivers, western horseback riding, camping in Wyoming, Colorado and Idaho, canoeing boundary waters, and salmon fishing in Canada.

Don stayed active throughout his lifetime and loved walking with his good friends Max and Rusty. Three times a week, regardless of the weather, they would hike 3 miles at places like the Grand View State Park, Little Beaver and Camp Creek State Park.

Don is preceded in death by his wife of more than 50 years, Mary Anne Hodson and his son, David Hodson.

Left to cherish his memory is his daughter, Meredith Morris and husband Marshall; two sons, Donald D. Hodson, Jr and Douglas D. Hodson and wife Debbie Hodson and eight grandchildren, Max and Mackenzie Morris, Donald D. Hodson III (Trey), Baylee Anne Hodson, Cooper Reid Hodson, Douglas Dylan Hodson, Derek Thomas Hodson and Daniella Ann Hodson.
