A. Charles Casadonte, Jr. 1924 – 2021
NEWPORT – A. Charles Casadonte, Jr., 96, of North Street, died on August 6, 2021 at his home.
Anthony Charles Casadonte was born on September 28, 1924, in Herkimer, a son of the late Anthony C. and Esther (Miller) Casadonte. He received his education in Herkimer schools and entered the U.S. Army in 1943. Charlie served with Company B 111st Medical Battalion in Northern France and Rhineland during WWII and was honorably discharged in 1945 at the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was united in marriage to Lee R. Wilkinson on July 5, 1969; she preceded him in death on October 16, 1988. On August 19, 1994, he married Shirley (Agne) Butler.
For over 50 years, Charles held a distinguished career in the home heating industry. He was first employed for R.K. Casadonte Heating Oil and then for Mohawk Valley Oil Sunoco for many years. Charlie loved his work and many of his family and friends can attest to his skill and expertise shared on their own systems.
Charlie loved the outdoors. His hobbies included golf, fly fishing, skiing, hunting and wilderness camping.
Survivors, besides Shirley, his wife of 27 years, include eight children, his son, Charles Casadonte and seven stepchildren, Richard (Dee) Brennen, Edward Butler (Les Schoof), Alan (Lisa) Butler, Jody (Tim) Gray, Gary (Amy) Butler, Martin (Linda) Butler and Kelly (Robert) Vrooman; seventeen grandchildren, Cheyenne (Andrew) Felker, Avery Brennen, Patrick, Brion, Kevin, and Tim Butler, James and Katie Butler, Molly and Karl Gray, Becky and Glen Butler, Elliot, Ryan and Sean Butler and Bob and Alicia Vrooman; one great-granddaughter, Aaliyah Felker; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his stepson, James (Fran) Butler; his siblings, Olive Piper and Robert and Raymond Casadonte; and his best friend, George Cummings.
The family would like to say thank you to Heidi Broadbent, Courtney Kolwaite, Amy Hunt, Hope Lindsay and Terri Stanistreet with a special thank you to family friend and neighbor, Lisa (Stave) Wiatr, for caring for Charlie with such love and compassion.
Relatives and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life to be held at the Newport Masonic Temple, 7408 Main Street, Newport, on Friday, August 13th starting at 4 p.m. There are no calling hours and arrangements are entrusted to Autenrith Funeral Home, Newport.
