As a safe place for families in Alabama with a child on the autistic spectrum, Mitchell’s Place provides comprehensive, research-based services for those affected by Autism Spectrum Disorder and other developmental disabilities.

A local nonprofit for the Latinx population, ¡HICA!’s Strong Families program serves new immigrant families in Birmingham. As the first point of contact for people, ¡HICA! offers info and internal references to help families transition into their new community.
6. Bundles of Hope Diaper Bank
According to Bundles of Hope Diaper Bank, there are over 14,500 children under the age of five in Birmingham and 29% of our community lives below the poverty line, which is $24,250 for a family of four.
Bundles of Hope Diaper Bank’s mission is to meet the diaper needs of families who are in need. They provide diapers to families at no cost.
7. Kid One Transport System, Inc.
Reliable transportation for children can sometimes be hard to meet because of environmental factors. Kid One is the only nonprofit of its kind in the state and one of only a handful of nonprofit transportation providers targeting children in the US.
8. Children’s Aid Society of Alabama
Since 1912, Children’s Aid Society has provided services to families in need or at risk by helping parents with the skills and resources they need to keep families together. When children could not remain with their own families, other homes have been provided through foster care or adoption.
9. On River Time

aTeam Ministries offers spiritual, financial and emotional support to children and their families coping with pediatric cancer. They have a variety of programs including prayer teams, Home Away from Home lodging, financial grants, and numerous events and activities.
12. Christopher Kids
Christopher Kids is a nonprofit corporation that serves children by fostering hope and imagination through specialized, accessible and personalized spaces. Children are referred online and chosen to receive a space designed especially for them.
13. Magic Moments
Magic Moments provides children with non-medical opportunities such as a family trip to Disney World, meeting a celebrity of choice, or going on a shopping spree. They also provide ongoing events to enhance the relationships between their staff and families as well as relationships between families.
14. Red Barn
Red Barn offers theraputic horseback riding for children with disabilies. They aim to foster a soothing atmosphere by offering Equine Assisted learning where children create special bonds with horses.
