  1. With dyslexia affecting 1 in 5 readers, Gwinnett County parents have called on the school district to better support dyslexic students. At a recent board of education meeting, school administrators unveiled GCPS’ plan to expand teacher training and programs for dyslexic students. The district also intends to implement dyslexia screening for students in advance of a 2024 Georgia mandate. (The Atlanta Journal Constitution)
  2. Lace up your sneaker for Gwinnett County’s 27th annual Run the Reagan Road Race! The event will take place on Ronald Reagan Parkway this Feb. 26. Run the Reagan has raised upwards of $3 billion over the years for local charity organizations; this year’s beneficiaries are the Lilburn Co-op, the Southeast Gwinnett Co-op, and the Brookwood School.   3. A new partnership between a local hospital and a Duluth high school is creating a much-needed talent pipeline for healthcare technician roles. Emory Johns Creek Hospital and McClure Health Science High School (MHSHS)’s joint pipeline program allows students to shadow healthcare professionals, learn about the healthcare field, and obtain necessary certifications to fill technician roles at the hospital.   • Volcano Steak & Sushi in Duluth failed its recent health inspection because of several contamination risk violations, including the use of soiled gloves as well as improperly-stored goods. The restaurant corrected most of the violations during the inspection. (Atlanta Journal Constitution)
